Back in 2002……

Interviewer- When you look back from when you started out to now, have you ever honestly felt that Oasis was over?

Liam- No. Not once. Well, of course whenever Noel gets emotional, he'll say 'I can't go on being in the same band as you!', but he's always said that many times. But no matter how many times he walks out of the band, I've always known that he'll realise that the only band he can come back to is Oasis, that the only place that he can express himself musically the most is Oasis.

Interviewer- I think you and Liam have grown tired of having it large when you were younger, and are now trying to live a more simple life. So, because of that, I think you can concentrate more on the music. Do you think this is that kind of turning point?

Noel- That's definitely true in my case. But I don't know about Liam. He still gets drunk and gets into trouble when he goes out. He's always had a short temper and is always willing to pick a fight, and he's never really listened to me. He's been like that since the age of 3, and [when he was little] whenever he'd play outside, he'd pick fights with guys much bigger than him, get punched, then come home to me crying at the top of his lungs, crying 'Noel!!'
Interviewer- That's cute, actually.

Interviewer- Looking back, your relationship with Liam has been, on one hand, connected with this strong brotherly love bond, but then again, there's also this element of tension.

Noel- Yeah, that's true.

Interviewer- How is it now?

Noel- It's still the same. But I want to say this---I've always secretly had a sense of respect for Liam as an individual. He is the only one in the entire world that can express my songs in the way he does. And he is the only one who can bring a sense of warmth to my songs. I'll say without exaggeration that, he is a special person in all ways possible as a human being. The only negative thing I can think about him, is that whenever he's in a bad mood, he has a tendency to take out his anger on every one else around him.

为什么这么说呢, 因为最近本人没有跟上潮流, 该吃没多吃, 该看的没多看, 该去的地方没多去, 基本处于被时代抛弃名单的上游. 就这一个星期, 正事没怎么好好完成, 自己一时兴起揽了一些事来做, 还自觉生活充实. 等到前日上街, 和陈老师一沟通近况, 发现自己原来是最瓜的一个, 在抛单上又勇猛上窜了数位.

和陈老师出去是买吉他, 对, 我买了一把木吉他, 花了大价钱(蹭蹭蹭升升升). 我自知之明还是有, 口味杂亦知道自己玩着总归会出路不明, 但是实在耐不住诺大白的言传身教导致的内心汹涌, 所以我想, 有一把吉他, 也是时候了. 我就一直记得小时候在外婆家的储存间里一直有那么一把枫木原色吉他, 那时完全不知是何物, 从来也没想到摸摸碰碰, 并且那时一定家里还没有一张外文唱片, 即使拿起琴, 也接触不到这本是西方文化的精髓. 后来那琴不知是送给谁了. 面对这笔开销, 我本想很煽情说一把吉他是陪伴一辈子的东西, 但是我太土了, 这种话也就想想, 说出来就二了. 其实还就是花这笔钱不安心.

今天早上电话把我叫去拿包裹, 一本上周买的hard cover的Brothers从英国送来, 说来这本书刚出来是九几年, 那时还市值14.99刀, 现如今被我以十分之一的价格拿下,就是还付多四刀的邮费. 此书实在不能说是有多大的评论价值, 只因为是加拉格大兄弟和三兄弟家母亲身参与, 有许多成长照片以及至亲对那两个折腾死人的兄弟的insightful的详述, 所以八卦价值很高. Liam John Gallagher是个纯粹的SEN小孩, 而他的二哥, Noel Thomas Gallagher同学, 也好不到哪里去. 这还是家里没带去检查(所以长大成人了也没怎么变), 如果换了现在, 利亚姆小猫咪早就被tag上ADHD了, 因为老师都表示佩服妈妈能顶得顺他, 换了人未必能搞掂, 天天得嗑药才行; 而诺埃尔大白, 或许会被tag成轻微的Autism, 虽然社交能力不差, 但是也时常独处, 自我程度也不低, 整个人是默默的. 喜欢白日梦, 老编些故事娱乐群众(天哪,成天生活在自己编的谎言中,诺叔你这是何苦啊= =), 也有情绪化. 两个人都高度敏感, 一个会积极暴力抵抗, 一个则消极暴力抵抗. Liam猫从小啥也不爱吃, 只爱早餐麦片, 人称Weetabix kid, 是个喜欢吸引注意力的话多没头脑一根筋混蛋, 但是又天生丽质, 全镇女孩子都觉得他dead fit(曼城语极帅的意思), 在学校打架一对三, 脸上挂彩, 全校围观的女生都哭了; 诺大白就像所有家庭里的中间孩子, 成熟很快, 热爱帐篷生活, 喜欢野营, 和大哥混得很好, 从大哥的唱片堆里启蒙, 还开始弹吉他并且越弹越好(不像某猫, 小学的时候带吉他和小提琴到学校都是去秀的);

书还没看完, 这种叙述式的书籍看起来其实很轻松, 不过书中的主角们都四十好几, 要揣摩出这期间的转变因果还是很费脑筋的. 典型离异家庭里, 妈妈比较宠最小的Liam猫, 就惹得两个哥哥头痛, 经常玩"Wait till I tell Mam"这样的招数. 大哥是很头大, 要时常应妈妈要求带着小弟去这去那, 连场球赛都看不好是因为小混蛋一直叫要吃这个要吃那个(你个吃货! 家里一点钱全给你霍出去了, 先是小提琴, 又是一单子吃的), 而二哥就相对不好惹一点. 大哥有这么一句描述诺白白如何对付胡闹的Liam猫, 我觉得非常萌.

"If I got up to teach him some manners, he'd run off. Everything was a game to him. He was hyperactive.(囧) If he was annoying our Noel, he'd just give Liam this look; a stern gaze, drooping his eyebrows. Liam knew then to shut up. I bet Noel wishes he could shut Liam up like that now."

我知道Liam猫在一些访谈里提到过他小时候溺水的事, 就是他非要跟两个哥哥去河边一起玩才会发生的. 当时两个不会游泳的哥哥都不知道怎办, 要是没有邻居好朋友, 这个世界上就没有利亚姆小猫咪来继续装老虎装豹子了. 黏人是大部分家里最小的孩子会做的吧. 我觉得Liam猫是比较喜欢黏大哥, 对二哥, 我想他应该是崇拜到小怕. 所以最终两个人在接下来20来年纠结厮扭, 才会那样爱恨交织orz
